Fall Intensive Series – Daily – November – Saturday

Ballet Class

9:00-10:00am Pacific / Noon-1:00pm Eastern

In our first class of the day, we will reinvent the way you perceive ballet and the tradition’s specific way of training men and women. The men will practice pointe work exercises and the women will perform combinations originally designed for a ‘men’s class’.  By breaking down these barriers, we will challenge gender roles and stereotypes. You’ll gain a new and broader perspective on classical technique.

Contemporary Ballet

10:00-11:00am Pacific / 1:00-2:00pm Eastern

Your preconceptions and ideas about classical ballet will be challenged and reinvented by experiencing movement inspired by the father of Contemporary Ballet, William Forsythe.  Or you might call this class something more fun, like ‘Ballet in a Blender’, taking classical steps and randomly putting a sequence together that is divorced from the structure of a classical variation. Add on non-classical music to accompany the combination, and you’ve got contemporary ballet. Get ready for a challenging and exciting class!

Meal Break

11:00-11:30am Pacific / 2:00-2:30pm Eastern

Modern Technique Fusion

11:30am-12:30pm Pacific / 2:30-3:30pm Eastern

What happens if you take aspects of Graham, Horton, Limon, and Taylor techniques, combining them into one class?  You’ll find out in this class! By allowing for a sequence of movements where each dancer has to focus, concentrate and distinguish each step clearly, you’ll learn to identify what makes each modern technique different as well as what they all have in common.

A Movement-Based Dance History

12:30-1:30pm Pacific / 3:30-4:30pm Eastern

There is one very important piece of a dancer’s education and training that is frequently missing. Most dancers have a very limited knowledge of our art form’s history, the trailblazers and legends that came before us who revolutionized the way we see and experience dance today.  This class is an opportunity to reinvent your educational and academic perspectives. Knowing more means you appreciate the art form more. Knowing more means you’ll have a greater respect for the tradition.  And knowing more will give you the tools and knowledge to carve out your own unique voice, contributing your own legacy to the art form.
